During the busy weekdays, many Hitech City office-goers look for a quick but delicious lunch. The few parameters that they look for a good meal are good quality food (possibly innovative), a turnaround time of 30-45 minutes and finally an attractive price. The new Executive Set Menu at Ohm, the signature Pan-Asian restaurant of Avasa Hotel in HiTech City satisfies on all three counts. At an attractive price of Rs 800 (all inclusive), the menu is designed in such a way that the guest can complete their entire dining experience within 40 minutes, and get to taste some of the delicacies from contemporary oriental cuisine.
The set lunch has four courses – a soup, a plate of dim sum or salad, one main course and a dessert. For each of these groups, you can choose from some pre-fixed options, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, so that regular visitor can go back again and again and try out a different item. A feature of the lunch is that main courses come bundled with rice or noodles.
At a review session of the Set Lunch, we were promptly seated and handed over the simple one-page menu. Since there were three of us, we decided to try out different items from the menu, so that we can taste a maximum number of dishes. Chef Taraknath, the corporate chef who looks after Ohm as well as three Mekong restaurants in three different cities, was present for us to consult in choosing the best dishes. Since there were only two options for the soup, we decided to try both. The Chicken Winter Corn soup was a thick soup where I felt excess corn flour had marred the taste. However, the Spinach Enoki Soup, a thin soup with chicken, Enoki mushrooms and spinach retained the flavours of each of the ingredients – a simple but earthy offering.
The dim sum and salad section had about ten items, and three of us had to choose three of them. After a little confabulation among us and some advice from Chef, we decided to skip the salads and go for three different dumplings. The Shrimp Hargao was my pick of the three. The prawn fillings inside the pleated, translucent skin justified the looks. Pan Fried Lamb Dumpling was decent, and I admired the fact that it was not too oily. For vegetarians, Pinenut and Babycorn Dumplings would be a worthy choice, the crystal dumplings topped with a single corn packed a punch. With the dumplings, Ohm serves some special dips which make the experience even better.
We preferred the dumplings over the salads, but if I had the flexibility to try out a salad also, I would have tried out the Malaysian Chicken Mince Salad.
Choosing the main courses were not so difficult. Since all of us were non-vegetarians, our shortlist was automatically reduced to six of the nine dishes offered. XO Fish was a clear choice for me, the dish in a spicy seafood based sauce served with soft noodles did not disappoint at all. The Pan Fried Chicken Noodle Black Pepper Sauce, which had fried noodles a rich thick sauce, was another favourite of the chef. Finally,
Sichuan Pot Roasted Lamb served with jasmine rice had the perfect ingredients to satisfy the spicy Hyderabadi palate. It must be noted that all three main courses were much above average, just as one expects from restaurants under Chef Taraknath.
There were three desserts to end the meal – Dutch Truffle, Warm Date Pudding and Honey Darshan. I had a spoonful from each, and they were par for the course.
Overall, I feel it is an incredible deal at Rs 800, given the number of items and more than that the quality of preparations Ohm is known for. If you go in a group, order for different dishes and share, it will really be a wholesome meal. The restaurant is committed to seeing that you get served in quick time so that you can be in your office within the stipulated break time.
