Delizioso Lasagna Promotion at Tuscany

While Italian food festivals have become quite common in Hyderabad, niche promotions are not too many in number. Tuscany at The Trident, Hyderabad brings to us a Delizioso Lasagna, a festival planned around Lasagna, one of the traditional Italian dishes which also has a significant fan following in India.

Lasagna is an Italian dish where in its traditional form flat sheets of lasagna pasta are layered with meat mince, cheese, vegetables and sauces. It is a one pot dish which is intended to provide a wholesome meal of carb, protein and fat. For this festival, the restaurant has lined up a special menu of around twelve items, where there is equal importance given to vegetarian and non-vegetarian recipes. At a preview, we were served tasting portions of some of the dishes from this menu which has three broad sections.

The World of Classic section lists a few of the time-tested recipes. Bolognaise had ground tenderloin and parmesan cheese in layers with flavours of rosemary. This very traditional lasagna has a strong flavour of the meat. Roast Vegetables was the other dish from this part of the menu we tried. Though not a fancy recipe, the vegetable lasagna served with cherry tomatoes and lots of cheese tasted delicious. Lamb Ragout, another non-vegetarian offering in this section looked interesting.

The second section in the menu is called Around The World. As suggested by the name the recipes here are inspired by global cuisine. Pastelon was a Dominican dish with layered chicken mince, cheese and plantains. This was a fairly mild dish, where the plantains dominated the taste. Mushroom Timballo, a dish of layers of rice, mushrooms and parmesan cheese impressed with its looks, but it did not appeal to my palate. A dish which is worth a mention here is the Greek Moussaka, an eggplant and meat based preparation.

With Executive Chef Manik Magotra around, there has to be some innovation, and aptly the third section was called Trident Twist. For me, the top draw here was Open Face, pork belly slow cooked into a ragout using sous vide technique. Absolute melt in the mouth stuff it was. Crisp and Fresh was a dish of different genre, with deep fried crispy pasta served with some saffron, cheese sauce and pesto. The two dishes were plated together very attractively. A fellow diner, who does not eat pork was served Multigrain, a dish of avocado and zucchini. I had a spoonful of the same and it tasted pretty good to me.

The tasting ended here, and the diners went on to enjoy the tremendous desserts that the restaurant is known for – Tiramisu and Crème Brulee among others.
